We love to do the unexpected at Heart Berry. Our Native Land Scarf collaboration is truly in the spirit of creating collaborations no one saw coming to benefit the good work. With our friends at the MN Wonderwall we have been able to do a series of collaborations! Two tifos, an award winning design, a record breaking shirt fundraiser, and donated over $15,000 to Wakan Tipi and Minnesota Indian Women's Sexual Assault Coalition. We believe in bringing our art to the world and sharing how it can tell our stories, while centering Native narratives. We believe our art loves us and brings good. Our most recent collaboration is the Native Land Scarf. Scarves are an integral part of Major League Soccer,...
New Riverfront Signage Makes History by Sharing Accurate History Gathered around the table last year by Holly Hansen of the City of Cloquet were tribal historians, language experts, scientists, artists, city historians, and officials. What began as a run of the mill discussion of logging and paper mills quickly shifted as the leadership from Fond du Lac flipped the table over to show what has always been there. History is so often taught from the perspective of colonialism as if logging and homesteading were the beginning of time. Why signs? Posted signage is a powerful educational tool. Whether its ready by tourists or parents watching kids play at the park, accurate history can change perspectives, welcome people home, and highlight...
Here at Heart Berry, this small business on the Rez, we are committed to Sovereignty. Sovereignty of our community, our culture, our economy, our bodies, and our futures. We love to utilize our cultural art and our space here with you to build that sovereignty. With the power of your support and collaboration of the MN Wonderwall our give backs to the ICWA Law Center and Wakan Tipi donated over $16,000! Just imagine what is possible! At a recent awards ceremony I was inspired to create a scholarship for Native students seeking education past high school. We have so much power to create space that supports our young native scholars and build a future more independent, more sovereign, than we...
How Native businesses can and are doing it our way The message around business is so often "competition competition competition" which drives a lot of Native aspiring business owners and dreamers away. Because we come from a value system that prioritizes the whole over the individual this tension can prove too hard to bear. The notion of competition is built on a scarcity mindset and when we come from communities that suffer the greatest scarcity, this can feel daunting. Collaboration comes from an abundance mindset and says "we all do better when we all do better." As tribal people, it is oppositional to our way to see others as our competition, our enemy, and where we are trying to always run...
Heart Berry was really born from the collaborative spirit. "The small regalia business I ran from my kitchen table grew into Heart Berry from the vision and collaboration of Eighth Generation." Giizh Heart Berry has been fortunate to collaborate with amazing artists like Holly Young and Nedahness Greene on some of our proudest art installations. We collaborate with non profits such as the Minnesota United Wonderwall to raise large sums of money from our tiny business on the Rez. Last year we raised and donated over $16,000 with our collaborative hearts and you. We believe in the power of Creating Space. We also believe this is our role and responsibility. Auntie's Table brought together aspiring and accomplished makers...
