Elections and Native Land

This week... it's been alot. Many of us are grieving, enraged, numb, and scared.  The day after the election I worked really hard to just stay steady. Like a person in deep grief I moved slowly and with measured intention. As Native people we know the art of survival well. We have survived and thrived despite 400+ years of war and policy meant to destroy us. For me this election represented a possible turn towards something better and instead it feels like we went back to an abuser after narrowly escaping.  Many Native people do not recognize the legitimacy of this government we live under and they're not wrong! However-- our children attend these schools, we go to the clinics funded...

Native Land Benefits Ojibwe Language Institute

We love to do the unexpected at Heart Berry. Our Native Land Scarf collaboration is truly in the spirit of creating collaborations no one saw coming to benefit the good work.  With our friends at the MN Wonderwall we have been able to do a series of collaborations! Two tifos, an award winning design, a record breaking shirt fundraiser, and donated over $15,000 to Wakan Tipi and Minnesota Indian Women's Sexual Assault Coalition.  We believe in bringing our art to the world and sharing how it can tell our stories, while centering Native narratives. Record sales lead to $8000 donation!

Heart Berry x Supporters of Minnesota United FC’s three largest Supporter Groups announced today their continued support for Wakan Tipi Awaŋyaŋkapi with an $8000 donation. Wakan Tipi Awaŋyaŋkapi is a Dakota nonprofit which seeks to engage people to honor and care for our natural places and the sacred sites and cultural value within them by focusing on urban conservation and restoration, cultural connections and healing, and environmental education.

Working from the Heart, Binding together Ojibwe Art with Community Organizing, a new pathway for Entrepeneurship Reporting to you live from Native land today.  As a small Native owned business, Heart Berry is also one of the fastest growing in the Midwest. But as a Native artist and CEO, I want to grow down and out, not only up.  Alongside our collaborative partner Eighth Generation we have been able to build our reach and grow from pencil drawing and custom regalia to teaching, creating art installations, and donating thousands of dollars a year to local organizations.  As Native people we often get told we are in two worlds.  As an Anishinaabekwe I reject this idea.  It pulls me in two...
